1 step forward, 2 steps back

This is how the week has felt.  I have lost 0.5 kg and that was the step forward.  I weigh 120.2kg this morning.

However, the week wasn't a success and there are 2 reasons for that.

 1. After my great result last week, i spent the best part of Sunday drinking and eating.  When i jumped on the scales on Monday morning, i was at 122.2 kg.  Therefore, the actual weight loss this week has been 2 kg, but i went backwards.

 2. My back has flared up again and this stems from a training session i had before Christmas.  It was intense and definitely TOO MUCH TOO SOON, yet i was really hopeful it would just go away and i would resume normal training.  At first, i eased off on some weight and then i dropped bent over rows and deadlift altogether and in the end (this week) i stopped the training.  The issue wasn't that the back was hurting me in training, while i was warmed up and exercising, it was the day after and few after that.  I was having trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

In fact, mornings are really bad for me now and without going into too much medical detail, that is expected after the body was horizontal all night and then goes into vertical in the morning.

I am booked with my osteopath on Wednesday and i can already hear his words about TOO MUCH TOO SOON !

I am really annoyed with myself, in fact i am downright pissed off and quite frankly sick of being weak.  But, and there is always a 'but', the injury in February 2009 has certainly had long term effects.  I think i still let my ego get in the way from time to time, because after all, i was the Australian Benchpress Powerlifting Champion in 2007 and used to 'play' with 32 and 48kg kettlebells and squat and deadlift close to 200kg on regular basis.  And now i struggle to lift 30kg on the bar!

Anyway, that is my rant for this week, i'll find a solution and implement it for the next few weeks.  I'd say it will be walking (which i hate) and some bodyweight work.  At least we are moving house in the next few weeks and then i go to NZ on business, so i will have time to rest and reflect and get back into training when i return.
